The work
Our current DRR portfolio spans district disaster management plan development for state governments, school safety programmes covering structural safety screening and school disaster management plans, community-based disaster risk management at gram panchayat level, departmental disaster management plans, and training of trainers for state and district officials.

Typical deliverables include HRVCA studies; DDMPs, SDMPs, VDMPs and SOPs benchmarked against the Disaster Management Act 2005, NDMA guidelines, state disaster management plans, the Sendai Framework, Sphere standards and ISO 22320; rapid visual screening reports; capacity building curricula and handbooks; tabletop and simulation exercises; and bilingual English and Hindi technical documentation.

Positions

Team Leader

20+ years in disaster management, with demonstrated leadership of multi-district government assignments. Owns technical direction, client and donor relationships, quality assurance and delivery against payment-linked milestones. Prior service in or with a state disaster management authority is a strong advantage.

Senior DRR Expert

15+ years, with authorship of district or state-level disaster management plans adopted by a government client. Leads a district cluster, drives the benchmarking and gap analysis methodology, and mentors junior team members.

DRR Expert (state-based)

8+ years and resident in the assignment state. We are particularly interested in candidates based in Uttar Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh. Runs district consultations, holds the relationship with the district administration, and produces plan chapters to template.

Disaster Risk Management Specialist (HRVCA and GIS)

8+ years in hazard, risk, vulnerability and capacity assessment. Handles primary and secondary data collection design, spatial analysis, hazard mapping and the evidence base underpinning plan recommendations. Working knowledge of QGIS or ArcGIS and DEM-based analysis expected.

Structural Safety Expert (Civil Engineer)

10+ years, B.E. or B.Tech in Civil Engineering, M.Tech in Structural Engineering preferred. Conducts rapid visual screening of public buildings and schools, classifies structural hazard levels, drafts retrofitting recommendations and red flag notifications, and briefs government counterparts on findings.

GEDSI Expert

8+ years mainstreaming gender equality, disability and social inclusion into DRR programming. Responsible for inclusive assessment tools, GEDSI chapters in plans, accessibility and child protection provisions, and inclusion-focused facilitation in workshops.

What we look for across roles

  • A postgraduate qualification in disaster management, geology, geography, civil engineering, social work, development studies or a related field. A PG Diploma in Disaster Management from NIDM, TISS, IGNOU or an equivalent institution is valued.
  • Documented authorship of DDMPs, SDMPs, VDMPs, HRVCA reports or SOPs that were adopted by a government client. Name the assignment and the client in your application.
  • Working fluency in English and Hindi, and the ability to produce technical text in both.  Relevant regional language proficency is an advantage for specific assignments.
  • Willingness to travel for sustained district-level field work, including remote and hill terrain, and comfort working with government stakeholders at district collectorate and state authority level.

    Engagement terms

    Assignments are consultancy engagements, typically 8 to 36 months, on a day rate or monthly rate benchmarked to experience and the funding agency's norms. Most roles are state-based with periodic travel. Some senior positions can be structured as part-time inputs across the assignment period.
