EHII working with Micronutrient Initiative to Combat Childhood Diarrhea in Gujarat

EHI International is carrying out a key intervention project for Micronutrient Initiative India across 1296 villages in 11 blocks of 5 districts. We are developing and implementing a behavioral change intervention targeted at caregiver in 5 districts of Gujarat to address the gaps and to achieve the program objectives. The BCC strategy and related activities are overcoming the barriers and gaining the acceptance of all stakeholders involved through spreading awareness & knowledge, motivation leading to positive change in the behavior of caregivers so that they seek available services and adhere to correct treatment protocols and associated precautions.

Appropriate BCC tools and messages have been developed with the aim of enhancing involvement of the community and ensure greater ownership. A media plan has been developed to relay key messages at local and district level and across mass media channels integrating the same with mid-media channels including print, radio and television. Village level mobilisers have been appointed and trained across all 1296 villages by a team of block level coordinators for effecting behavior change among the caregivers.  The study also includes impact evaluations to assess the impact of the interventions in the mid-term and end of the project.
